The 501 Handknit Sweater is our best-selling style. The below guide outlines why the 501 is the perfect layer for any winter adventure.
G- They Don’t Make It Like This Anymore My husband’s grandma grew up in the Swiss Alps and was an avid skier. She and her friends would spend their weekends hiking up snow-covered slopes with their skis slung over their shoulders and picnic baskets on their backs. To keep warm, she would wear wool sweaters she knit herself. Inspired by Diana and a wool sweater I’ve worm backcountry skiing for years, I made my ideal handknit ski sweater.
U- Warmest Wool The sweater is 100% wool from the High Andes of Argentina. Most sheep in Argentina roam the glacial valleys of Patagonia, where they produce wool to protect them from the high winds and cold temperatures. The resulting wool is super efficient at keeping you warm.
I- Simple Design The 501 is an iteration of a sweater my mom knit me 10 years ago. The design is simple– rolled finishes, a raglan sleeve, and not too loose to layer over. While most brands offer oversized knit sweaters or fitted, technical sweaters made with plastic, I wanted to make a happy medium- the perfect, simple, natural layer.
D- Thoughtfully Made The sweaters are handknit by a collective of female artisans outside of Lima, Peru. The collective is Fairtrade. A head-knitter receives the design, creates instructions, and gathers the yarn. She guides each knitter on how to make the sweater then gives them yarn to knit more at home. Each sweater takes 2 to 3 days to knit.
E- Natural Benefits Wool is magical– it's the only clothing material where the function of the garment perfectly mirrors the material's function in nature. Sheep grow fiber to keep them comfortable and protect them from the elements, which is the same reason we wear sweaters. The wool is minimally processed to preserve its natural benefits of thermo-regulation, moisture-wicking, breathability, and odor-resistance.
