REGENERATIVE ALPACA
Our alpaca fiber comes from a small, family-run farm in Peru’s Altiplano. Sitting at 13,500ft above sea level, surrounded by the Andes, the alpaca’s fleece protects the alpaca from the extreme environment they roam.
The alpaqueros work with a local NGO to revitalize the farm’s freshwater cycles and regenerate native Altiplano grasses. The practices not only reduce stress on the environment, but the alpacas themselves. The fiber is a reflection of the happy alpaca– it’s soft, silky, extremely warm, and does not itch.
The farm is located in Maranpaqu, Peru. The fiber is cleaned in Sicuani, Peru, spun and dyed with plants in Arequipa, and hand-knit in Lima.
BENEFITS OF ALPACA
+Thermo-insulating: Alpaca fiber has a unique, hollow structure that traps heat and makes it the warmest animal fiber by weight.
+Water repellent: The outside of their fiber is relatively smooth, which allows moisture to bead and roll off.
+Absorbs UV: The smooth surface also scatters UV rays, protecting alpacas from the strong, high-altitude sun.
+Odor-Resistant: Alpaca fiber naturally traps and releases odors.
HIGH ANDEAN WOOL
We source wool from the High Andes for our sweaters. Few sheep produce warmer wool than those in the Andes. Their fleece protects them as they roam valleys shadowed by Southern Argentina’s glacial peaks.
Sheep naturally come in shades of grey and brown. We chose undyed, naturally-colored wool, so we can offer color options without synthetic chemical dyes, preserving the wool’s natural benefits.
The wool is grown in the High Andes, spun in Arequipa, Peru, and handknit in Lima.
Benefits of High Andean Wool
+ Naturally Insulating: The wool comes from near the arctic where sheep are extremely efficient at keeping warm in the cold
+ Protection from the Elements: wicks and absorbs moisture to keep you dry, absorbs UV, and acts as wind barrier
+Odor Resistance: absorbs and neutralizes odor to keep you fresh and reduce the need for washing
+Breathability: circulates air and moisture to keep you comfortable in any conditions
AMERICAN WEST MERINO
Our superfine Merino wool is from a collective of regenerative ranches in the American West. The rare Merino variety they grow reflects the rugged mountains and vast meadows the sheep roam.
The wool is grown in Colorado, Oregon, California, and Nevada, spun in North Carolina, knit in Massachusetts, cut and sewn in Los Angeles, and naturally dyed in Montana.
Our wool baselayers are processed to preserve this unique raw material’s quality, natural properties, and many benefits.
BENEFITS OF MERINO
+Thermoregulation: responds to your body temperature and ambient conditions to keep you cool in the heat and warm in the cold
+Protection from the Elements: wicks and absorbs moisture to keep you dry and protects you from UV rays
+Odor-resistance: absorbs and neutralizes odor to keep you fresh and reduce the need for washing
+Breathability: circulates air and moisture to keep you comfortable in any conditions
